Team Arrival

We arrived late last night, after a long day of airplanes, airport food, and the standard confusion that comes with travel. Everything seems fairly standard actually, even the airport seems to be a fairly standard airport by US terms, except security might be a little higher! We worked our way through customs, practiced our Spanish, met our travel guy Alejandro, retrieved all of our bags successfully (Praise!) and drove about 1 and 1/2 hours to our hotel and Ciudad Vieja.

We arrived at the hotel about 9pm where Lidia and her staff were waiting for us. She was greeted by 30 American faces, all showing different levels of excitement, confusion, anxiety, and joy… We all got our room keys, and then sat down to a delicious dinner that had been waiting for our arrival!  After dinner, we shared some quick notes about the next day, sipped on some freshly brewed Guatemalan coffee (yes, even at 11pm), took a quick tour of the hotel, and off to bed…

Today we will travel to the Land of Hope, a dump community near Escuintla. The drive is a little longer because of the volcano, the last big eruption destroyed one of the roads that we would take as a primary route. So today we will spend a fair amount of time in transport, leaving early, and returning late, but we have plans in place to provide a medical clinic, a dental clinic, make soup, and just hang out and love on the people for a day!

Please pray for this day, for safety, transportation, for health. Pray for what God has planned to show us, for what God has planned to teach us, and for what God has planned for us to do.

Blessings to you all, and greetings from Guatemala!
